Rev Tech Motors - Written by Keith Fudge

In 1972, the Clean Air Act required petroleum manufacturers to remove the lead from gasoline. What resulted from this legislation for the automotive and motorcycle industry was lower compression ratios and less power for the engines that were produced. Well, the folks at Custom Chrome in Morgan Hill, California created a solution for V-Twin engine lovers as they designed and produced the 100 c.i.d. Rev Tech engine. Recently, Brian Jackson had the chance to travel to the company’s facility and visit with Custom Chrome’s Media Relations Manager, John Sullivan.

John told Brian that the Rev Tech 100 is the key for more power and was made to fit in the line of motorcycles that are produced in Milwaukee. He went on to state that the key to the increase in power and the fit within stock production motorcycles is that they designed the motor using “the same outer dimensions with bigger inner dimensions.” Consequently, the result is a 25% increase in displacement and power potential. To be specific regarding just what bikes will accommodate the Rev Tech 100, John told Brian that they will fit bikes built from 1984 through 1998 that were originally equipped with the motor produced in Milwaukee whether they are cruisers or dressers.

The increase in displacement and power potential is not only what makes the Rev Tech 100 popular. Durability and reliability are at the forefront in production and John showed Brian just what goes on inside the engine to see how the motor adequately and efficiently handles the extra torque it creates. First, it starts with a compression-cast, precision-machined engine block with extra metal at the bearing and rocker assembly stress points. In fact, everything in this engine is heavy duty including heads which are equipped with larger combustion chambers, larger valves, a splitter-tongue intake for better fuel distribution, and d-shaped exhaust to prevent revision of exhaust gases. The engine even comes complete with Mikuni cards and just about everything except the alternator assembly. The engine is also designed to be maintenance-free, too! Since the block, cylinder barrels and heads are all cast aluminum and are sandwiched together by four bolts, there’s no heat distortion and consequently no need for adjustment! With the Rev Tech 100 you can also have your choice of engine finishes such as Natural Aluminum, Black Wrinkle, or Polished. In addition, John told Brian that Rev Tech engines are backed by the best warranty in the business and that each one is run and tested before it is sold.

By the way, Brian said that Rev Tech engines are easy to locate and purchase, as there are more than 6,000 Custom Chrome dealerships in the U.S. And, also keep in mind that Custom Chrome has thousands of parts and accessories including kit bikes that you can assemble yourself! So, if your scoot needs a little boost, check out the Rev Tech 100 and all the other motorcycle parts and accessories at www.customchrome.com.
