| On a recent swing out to the west coast,
Brian and the crew from Corbin's Ride On came across
one of the hottest chopper shops around. Big Mike's Choppers,
better known as BMC, of Bend, Oregon, is producing some of
the best custom bikes for the buck that we have ever seen.
BMC is owned and operated by Mike and Greg Rouse, and these
two brothers have put together a winning combination in the
competitive world of producing custom motorcycles. While
he was there, Brian had the chance to speak with both Mike
and Greg and get their take on why BMC has become so successful
in such a short time. Mike, the Founder and Designer of the
company, told Brian how he got started in the business. After
he built his first bike and it "got a cover." Then, before
he knew it, he had thirty orders to build custom motorcycles!
As the business began to grow Mike realized that his brother
Greg, who possessed a business background, would be the missing
part of the puzzle to take the business to the next level.
With that, Greg left his job and is now President of BMC.
Brian also had a chance to talk with Greg who told him that
he and Mike didn't believe that the business would get this
big this fast! He also said that it is a good story-two brother
working together...rings a bell doesn't it? After all, the
Wright brothers did pretty well, and what about that Harley
guy with those Davidson brothers? Sounds like a winner to
us!
Greg went on to say that now the brand and the image are
both well respected in the industry, and the key to that
praise and success has been the staff at BMC. Greg says that
all the employees ride BMC bikes and they believe in what
they build. There is also a sense of total commitment as
every BMC employee is involved in the vertical integration
process where quality and affordability go hand in hand.
At BMC, they do everything in house from paint to custom
billet work, and they do it all the right way! As Greg told
Brian, "We can go from a bare frame to 100 miles per hour
in six hours." Now that's rocking and rolling!
When asked about being brothers and partners, Mike explained
that to him it was a "win/win situation," and that they have
a firm grip on the personal and the professional. And speaking
of the professional, Mike said that BMC is currently involved
in a venture with Paramount Custom Cycles in creating a bike
you will just have to see to believe! Mike also remained
firm that BMC would always be a chopper company and that
quality is #1 on their list! Finally, Greg told Brian that
they never quit striving to build the best, and to us that
could explain why their quality standards are so high! Greg
said, "Day in and day out is a struggle to build the perfect
bike." For our sake, let's just hope they don't stop trying!
BMC Choppers are easy to find. In fact, there are more than
37 dealers nationwide. So, if you would like to learn more
