| With the new found popularity of motorcycling, more bikes and riders are on the roads than ever before. In particular, sport bike riding is flourishing around the country and if this type of riding is your "cup of tea" then perhaps it is time to learn to do it the right way, and that includes going back to school-specifically the Kevin Schwantz Suzuki School at the Road Atlanta Race Track.
Founded by former 500cc World Crown winner Kevin Schwantz, this school is all about passing along the knowledge that Kevin gained in a career that produced more than 25 Grand Prix victories! Kevin told Brian that his main goal for the school is "to make people become better and safer riders," and through a two- or three-day program, riders have the opportunity to achieve that status. The school has been in existence for three years and just keeps growing! In addition, factory support from Suzuki, Michelin, and other sponsors make sure that all the riding equipment is in top condition for the students and instructors to use. Concerning the track, Marnie Lincoln, Managing Director of Road Atlanta Racetrack, told us why this location is a good choice. "The track is 2.54 miles with 12 turns. It is hilly and has elevation changes throughout." Obviously, this diversity helps riders deal with myriad conditions and challenges. So, who attends this type of school? The answer is: male and female riders of all ages and abilities are enrolled in and complete the course! One student, Lorraine Aledort, told us that the school is the safest place to learn and that there is nothing like it! Some riders are repeat customers such as Mike Rosas who was there for his second visit! Mike has been racing for five years and has been riding since he was 14!
The school begins with intense classroom instruction and the a walk around the track before the riding begins. Finally, students are allowed to ride (accompanied by an instructor) through the course where speeds can reach 155 miles per hour on the straights! Simply stated by one student: "It takes your breath away!" Kevin says that he believes that the school inspires confidence, and that there are so many challenges for the students to complete course. It would seem that the goal of making students better and safer riders is one that is achieved by the time they leave for home. As far as the motorcycle industry goes and what he is trying to accomplish, Kevin stated, "Anything I can do to help improve the imaging of motorcycling-I'll do it!" We believe that he is on the right path.
