| Recently, Brian Jackson and the crew had the chance to visit with John Parham, owner of J & P Cycles. Located in Anamosa, Iowa, J & P is one of the largest mail order suppliers of custom parts and accessories for a variety of motorcycles. Today, John is talking to Brian about building a bike on a budget.
First of all, John points out that you can get everything you need to build your bike from scratch from J & P catalogs. However, before you begin ordering parts, there are a couple of simple rules that you should follow. First, figure out what you want to build. In conjunction with this step, create a parts list including all costs so that you won’t run out of money before your project is completed. Next, when you have all the parts purchased, assemble your bike to make sure everything fits. Finally, disassemble your bike, paint it, and reassemble it and you are ready to go!
As Brian asks about certain components to start building a bike from scratch, John begins to show him some of the fine parts and accessories made by Milwaukee Twins that are available from J & P. John begins with custom bike frames from Milwaukee Twins that allow a variety of custom options, such as oversized rear tires. John also mentions that right-side drives, also produced by Milwaukee Twins, have become popular as well since they allow the use of even larger custom tires without having to offset the tranny. Speaking of trannys, Milwaukee Twins also produces five-speed transmissions and even six-speed gearboxes for those of you who just feel the need to shift it just one more time! Next, Brian notices that Milwaukee Twins parts are all about chrome and billet steel! Sweet-looking sets of custom pegs, grips, and forward controls are available, as are billet cable guides and oil coolers that match the down tubes of the frame. Where and what you are sitting on is also important too and Milwaukee Twins offers a system to switch from one-up to two-up seating with the turn of a screw! So you’ll have more power when you need it most, they offer a set of Power Cones that help to dissipate gas from the heads and provide more torque for low-end power!
In closing, John notes that Milwaukee Twins parts are high quality, are American made, are reasonably priced, and are available from J & P Cycle. That’s a win-win situation for everyone.
