Harley Motorcycle Makeover - Part 1 - Written by Keith Fudge

Recently, J & P Cycles had the opportunity to make one motorcycle enthusiast extremely happy as they announced Dennis Scheper as the winner of their Motorcycle Makeover Contest! Dennis' prize was the opportunity to go through the J & P catalogs and choose exactly what he needed to make his bike just like he wanted it! In our first visit, Dennis and J & P mechanic, Jeff Wiley, started up front and installed new grips, turn signals, lighting accessories, and some other chrome in just the right places. Today, we'll visit with them again to see what Dennis chose next.

On this visit, Jeff and Dennis picked up just where they left off. Before they began, J & P owner, John Parham, offered a great piece of advice for riders who are planning to upgrade some of the parts on their bike. "Think about where you are going." In other words, John is saying that you want to make sure the parts that you put on today will work with the parts or accessories that you may want to add further down the line! With that thought in mind, it was off to the shop to see just what Dennis and Jeff had planned for the day!

First, they continued their work on the front end of Dennis's Harley-Davidson by installing a chrome neck cover from Kuryakyn. Next, they installed a Ness Tech Billet Dash Cover from Arlen Ness Accessories. The next step addressed the foot controls, as they switched the stock parts with the following parts from Kuryakyn: an Iso Brake Pedal Pad, Iso Stirrups, Iso Pegs, and an Iso Shifter Toe Peg. These parts provide much more riding comfort and improve accessibility to the controls. No makeover would be complete without a seat upgrade, so Dennis chose the Corbin Gunfighter Saddle with the optional Oval Backrest. This change dramatically changed the looks of the bike. After Dennis sat on it, he remarked how much more comfortable it is now. The final installations of the day took place with the addition of custom point and derby covers from Iron Cross, and installing a set of Kuryakyn Passenger retractable foot pegs. During this session, Dennis and Jeff also removed the stock pipes from the bike in order to get ready to replace them with an aftermarket exhaust system. That will have to wait for next time! Join us again soon as we watch John, Dennis, and Jeff continue the ultimate motorcycle makeover. "J & P Cycles: keeping the world on two wheels!"
