Recently, we had the chance to make a return visit to Wichita, Kansas and see just what is new at Big Dog Motorcycles.  Well, one thing is for sure.  Things aren’t slowing down at all at Big Dog.  According to Nick Messer, President of Big Dog Motorcycles, “We are the largest manufacturer of custom motorcycles in the country and perhaps the world.  We are also the largest maker of choppers in the industry.  We have it all.”  
Nick attributes a diversity of ideas as part of the company’s success by telling us that, “A lot of people have input here.  We watch trends and listen to consumers.  We also get out to shows to see what people are looking for.”  Nick also says that the engineers are great and are ready to do anything to make a design or turn a concept into a reality.  Concerning the engineering aspect of the business, Nick said that Big Dog’s success can be found there too.  He believes that is where many other companies have fallen short.  “One failure that a lot of companies make is that they take separately produced parts and then build a motorcycle.  At Big Dog, every part is designed especially for that particular bike.”
So, what’s new these days at Big Dog?  Well, there are several innovative ideas that are in production now, such as their BDM Balance Drive System.  According to the company website, this system is, “Revolutionary technology that brings the final drive to the right side of the motorcycle, allowing for better balance, easier cornering, optimal rideability, and easier servicing.”  Big Dog Engineer, Dustan Hahn, also agrees that the balance is significantly better and that you can feel it even when you are not riding the bike.  Next, there is the new Air Ride Suspension system available on the Bulldog model.  This technology offers riders the look of a classic hard tail motorcycle while giving all the comfort of a bike with a full rear suspension.
