| For years, Big Bear Choppers in Big Bear, California, have been selling some of the finest bikes around that give their owners the ultimate role in the creation of their dreams—the customers build the bikes themselves! Now some folks in the trade call these types of motorcycles “kit bikes,” but Big Bear founder and owner Kevin Alsop disagrees. “We sell unassembled motor vehicles,” Kevin tells us, and with their own manufacturing facility in-house, Kevin says that means that they have the power to make changes for customers at a moment’s notice. “We can change anything to create a one-off custom unassembled motorcycle.” Another way that Kevin describes the process is that they sell custom parts in a box. “You tell us what you want and we give it to you. Call us—go to the web page—call the salesmen; the options are endless.”
Obviously, Kevin and his staff are proud of their products; however, there are also other areas of the business that the folks at Big Bear Choppers take pride in such us their technical support for the customer throughout and after the building process is complete! Another area that is important to the staff is the care that goes into each sale. Salesman “Mike the Greek” Aspiotes says that he may be on the phone for an hour with a client answering questions and making sure that the customer gets precisely what he or she wants. Mike went on to say that when the process is finished that the buyers are proud of their bikes and send pictures when they finish building them.
Concerning what is new at Big Bear Choppers, Kevin said that he always has new projects and designs in the works, but he won’t bring out a new model until it feels just right. Kevin said that his wife Mona serves as his sounding board, and from the success of the business we imagine that she is pretty much in tune to what folks want as well. Kevin went on to say that one of their latest creations was not an unassembled bike, but was a special lithium-powered motorcycle built in honor of the California Highway Patrol. “It’s pretty cool,” Kevin said, with the look of a proud owner and builder.
In closing, Kevin went on to say, “We have no competition. It’s good and that’s the way we like it.” Once you experience the world of Big Bear Choppers, we tend to think that you will agree with Kevin.
